Undergraduate

Undergraduate Applications – Australian, New Zealand and International

To complete your application, follow the instuctions below.  Remember that for all applications you will need to advise us of your ATAR score (or equivalent) or your university results, as well as providing two referees who can be contacted by the College. You will also need to be available for an interview.

Interview

You will need to be available for an interview. Being interviewed involves a conversation with the Provost or Deputy Provost during which you will have the opportunity to talk about yourself and your aspirations. You can then ask any questions you have about the College and look around it whilst you are visiting.

Selection Process

Offers for residence will be made after the announcement of the first round of offers from the University of Melbourne. You will receive a phone call or an email offering you a place and you will be asked to accept or reject the offer as soon as possible.

If you do not immediately receive an offer:

- This does not mean you have been rejected by the College.
- You will be given the choice of leaving your application on our waiting list, or sending your application to the Inter-Collegiate Pool, where other Colleges then have the opportunity to offer you a place.

Scholarships and Bursaries

There are a number of scholarships or bursaries available, if you are prevented from applying for financial reasons. Be aware that academic merit, though significant, is only one of a number of considerations for acceptance.

Selection Criteria

This College is essentially an academic community, and a primary consideration for admission is academic achievement. This is assessed from references provided and from academic results. Newman College is also a Roman Catholic foundation, established to meet the needs of Catholic students. Whilst the majority of its students are Catholic, there are students of other faiths at the College. It is expected that students who come to the College will participate fully in their faith. We seek creative, enthusiastic and interesting students who participate in community life and thrive in their university undergraduate and graduate years.

RMIT and Monash Pharmacy

Newman College accepts only students of the University of Melbourne or the Victorian College of the Arts, although on some occasions it makes exceptions to this rule and may accept a student from RMIT or studying Pharmacy at Monash University.
