Academic Life

Newman undergraduate students study mainly at the University of Melbourne and read for degrees in Arts, Commerce, Science, Biomedicine, Music and Environments. In addition there are students studying at the Victorian College of the Arts, the RMIT University and at the Pharmacy College (Monash University).

Honours, Graduate and Post-Graduate Students are invited to join the Senior Common Room. We have students studying for graduate and professional degrees in the faculties of Health Sciences (Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Ootometry), Engineering, Arts, Sciences, Music, Law and Architecture. In 2016 we have ten students engaged in PhD studies.

Excellent study facilities and IT facilities are available in the Academic Centre. On three evenings a week, tutorials take place in the rooms designed for the purpose in this Centre. In 2016, we are offering approximately 95 tutorials to students – undergraduate and graduate.  Whilst many of the Senior Common Room members are academic tutors, the larger proportion of academic tutors is drawn from the University and a wider professional community. The academic programme works to clarify and extend students' understanding of their university courses. Tutors stand, also, as academic role models for their students.
