Spiritual Life

Newman College espouses the humane, religious and cultural values of the Roman Catholic Church, but students of other traditions are welcomed and encouraged.

All students of the College enjoy the opportunity to maintain an active spiritual life. The College Chaplain, the four resident Jesuit priests and members of staff ensure that the spiritual, religious and pastoral needs of the students are met.

All new students are assigned to a mentor (normally a member of the Senior Common Room) who assists with their transition into the community and the University.

Retreats, pilgrimages, prayer groups and discussions groups are available to help young people move to a more mature faith.

Our services in the Chapels provide students with the opportunity to be musicians, readers and to act as special ministers.

There is a considerable emphasis placed on community service and students are encouraged to give much of themselves without seeking recognition or reward.
